The high Alpine Passes of Gotthard, Susten, Grimsel, Furka, Nufenen, Lukmanier, Oberalp and Klausen offer challenging driving experiences of a special type on the historical Alpine crossings. Through its central position the Andermatt Holiday Region is the ideal starting point for discovery tours over the Alpine Passes.
From Hospental the way climbs up to the famous Gotthard Pass. At the Pass culture lovers can get their money's worth by either visiting the museum or going into the Sasso San Gottardo. Afterwards Old-timers have a choice of route into the Tessin: Either a trip down the ancient cobble road, The Tremola, or the more modern, wider highway. From Airolo the route goes to the Piottina Gorge with its former Urner customs station Dazio Grande. A refreshment in one of the cool Grotti in Biasca is recommended before driving over the Lukmanier Pass. In Disentis the monastery awaits visitors and afterwards the last stretch through the authentic Bündner mountain villages to the Oberalp Pass follows. The Lighthouse at the top of the Pass, situated near to the source of the River Rhine, can be seen from some distance. On the onward journey the view out over the Ursern Valley is simply stunning!

Susten-Grimsel-Furka
The route descends initially down through the Schöllenen Gorge to Göschenen and on to Wassen. From there Old-timers travel through the imposing mountain world of the Meien Valley up to the Susten Pass, where the Stein Glacier waits to greet travellers. From Innertkirchen the climb passes the Grimsel Lake and on to Grimsel Pass where Marmots hold watch. Via many hair pin bends the road descends to Gletsch where the Furka Steam Railway has an upper terminal. There follows the climb to the Furka Pass and from this road one can look back and see the frightening serpentine construction of the road leading up to the Grimsel Pass. Shortly before the top of the Pass sits the Hotel Belvédère and then it is time to enjoy the picturesque Urner countryside on the way to Andermatt.

Furka-Nufenen-Gotthard
Following the tracks of 007 Old-timers firstly conquer the Furka Pass. After reaching the Pass the view of the Rhone Glacier is well worth your time or a visit to the Ice Grotto. At the nostalgic village of Gletsch the climb to the Nufenen Pass begins. After crossing the highest drivable Pass in Switzerland the route on the Tessin side descends through the beautiful landscape of the Bedretto Valley towards Airolo. Taking the old, historic cobble road, The Tremola, one climbs to the height of the Gotthard Pass. At the Pass it pays to visit the Museum or the Sasso San Gottardo, where unique giant mountain crystals can be viewed. On the journey back to Andermatt the way passes through the ancient muleteer trading village Hospental and its historical tower.
