Each year the grotto is hewn from the glacier ice anew – since 1870 and at 2300 m above sea level.
The tour of the ice grotto lasts approx. 30 minutes. Visitors walk through the tunnel and ice chamber on their own without a guide.
This excursion is an interesting complement to the journey across the Furka pass and enables travellers to experience the Rhone glacier up close.
Note: Closed shoes and warm clothing (jacket) are a good idea, as it is chilly in the grotto.
The grotto is not suitable for wheelchairs.
