For Leo Püntener, a 20-year dream – turning his hobby of mountain biking into his career – eventually came true
A tall, sporty man with a tanned complexion, Leo Püntener, 45, grew up skiing and biking in Attinghausen. Since he was 20 he had dreamed of being his own boss, but it took him two decades to make his dream come true. He had already found success as a downhill skier, but when he started a family the racing came to an end. Then one passion was replaced by another: mountain biking. Working for a travel company as a guide, in 2013 he led a bike tour of Sardinia and from then on he was clear what he wanted to do for a living. He dreamt of opening a mountain biking business in Andermatt, and in 2014, his company Bike+ Event was born.
One year later, he and his partner Barbera took over the Sust Lodge in Hospental, one of Switzerland's official bike hotels, although now the couple concentrate their efforts solely on the company. Leo sees plenty of potential in Andermatt's summer tourism market and is confident that mountain biking will have a huge role to play in that success.
Leo has recently launched services such as Trotti Zauber (Scooter Fun) in the Göscheneralp and, especially for winter, fat biking.
