Fascinating ice – since 1870.
The ice grotto is easy to access from the Furka pass road. It is located on the Valais side of the pass, near Hotel Belvédère.
Each year the grotto is hewn from the glacier ice anew – since 1870 and at 2300 m above sea level.
The tour of the ice grotto lasts approx. 30 minutes. Visitors walk through the tunnel and ice chamber on their own without a guide.
This excursion is an interesting complement to the journey across the Furka pass and enables travellers to experience the Rhone glacier up close.
Note: Closed shoes and warm clothing (jacket) are a good idea, as it is chilly in the grotto.
The grotto is not suitable for wheelchairs.
