Gotthard Panorama Express

Experience history up close: The journey with the Gotthard Panorama Express leads by boat from Lucerne to Flüelen (Uri), and onwards in the panoramic carriage of the SBB in 1st or 2nd Class via the historical Gotthard panoramic route into Ticino.

The journey begins in Lucerne, by steamboat. Cross Lake Lucerne, gliding past picturesque landscapes. On this boat trip, travellers will encounter some of the most history-steeped places in historical Switzerland, for example, the Rütliwiese, where Switzerland was founded in 1291, the Schiller Stone or the William Tell Chapel.

In Flüelen the panoramic train awaits for the descent and then travels on via the historical Gotthard route. Along the way, passengers will catch three glimpses of the church of Wassen, which gained worldwide renown on account of its bold track-side location with its many loop tunnels. The journey continues towards the south through the Gotthard tunnel between Göschenen (Uri) and Airolo (Ticino), which opened in 1882.
