Church St. Kolumban

In the early Middle Ages Ursern was under the juristiction of the Benedict monastery in Disentis. In the 11th century the monastery gave the settlement of Altkirch, that was near the present military barracks, the St. Kolumban church. The church is the most significant Romanesque sacral building in the county of Uri.

Parish Church St. Peter and Paul

The catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul with its distinct interior is the most noteworthy church in the Ursern valley and one of the most important religious centres of the county. Built in 1602, it was expanded at the end of the 17th century by Bartalomäus Schmid in his most distinctive style. The splendid main altar is the work of the renowned Valaisian sculptur Johannes Ritz. The Baroque chapel of St. Michael was built as an ossuary in 1640.
